Tips to Create More Personal Resilience

Personal resilience is an important quality that can help us through tough times. It’s that quality that also helps us bounce back and pick up the pieces after a setback or tragedy happens.

I found a great list of ways to cultivate more personal resilience. The ten tips are:

1. Make connections.
2. Avoid seeing crises as insurmountable problems.
3. Accept that change is a part of living.
4. Move toward your goals.
5. Take decisive actions.
6. Look for opportunities for self-discovery.
7. Nurture a positive view of yourself.
8. Keep things in perspective.
9. Maintain a hopeful outlook.
10. Take care of yourself.

I’d like to add an eleventh tip: Surrender to God.

God isn’t too “hip” these days, but having a relationship with God can help during tough times. Sure, there will be those moments that you might be yelling at God: “WHY? WHY??” – but God can handle it.

Surrender can actually be more difficult than trying to control things. You have to let go of the ego and acknowledge something bigger than yourself. Admitting that you can’t control everything can be scary.

But there’s also a peace in surrender. It’s about ceasing to fight with reality. This isn’t about overlooking evil or not standing up for yourself. But just finding a place of acceptance, by realizing that maybe there is a bigger plan.

There’s also the tremendous relief you get when you hand over your problems to God. It’s nice to know you don’t have to carry all your burdens yourself!
